Much to do about nothing

Tired of nothingness

Good evening....... hope you all are doing well, are loving your jobs and living life to the fulllest cuz right at the moment I am not :-(  It's not THAT bad actually - I'm just bored at the moment and then it had to start raining to day so I am even more bummed out.
I had a job interview yesterday though. I applied for a position with one of the local clubs in Reykjavík. They are looking for someone to launch a whole new section (neighborhood) and get people involved. It sounded interesting, so lets see if I hear back from them. The only (not really the only, there are several) but the main disadvantage of being unemployed in Iceland right now is that there are SO many people fighting over every available position so you have to have that EXTRA something to be hired.
Anyways.... the Icelandic Labor Day weekend is this weekend. Young and old Icelanders put their boots on and travel around the country with their tents, RV's, pop-up trailers (you name it) and enjoy the last "official" weekend of summer. Monday is a day off in Iceland so people try to take advantage of that and usually go out of town for a little celebration with friends and family. Steini, Chili and I are going to my parents summer house since it is the last weekend my brother and his family are in Iceland, but on Tuesday they are moving to Norway to go to school :-(

I just posted some pictures, so take a look at them. Leave your comment, send me e-mails or give me a call - we miss you guys.

T.G.I.F

Woohoo.... It's Friday - not that it has any special meaning to me since every day is a Friday in my world, but at least it means that the rest of the word will have 2 days off to play with me :-)

Yesterday my friend Magga and I attempted to climb Mt. Esja (approx. 900+ meter high). It started out fine, but as we got higher up the wind got the better of us and we had to turn around after only successfully climbing 1/3 of the way!!!! It was actually so bad that when we stopped once for cath out breath we almost fell over................ I guess we'll have to try again soon.

Again this weekend we are going to the summer house for some brik work, fun and food. If the weather is nice I might actually attempt to run a bit since I finally registered to the Reykjavik Half Marathon that is coming up on August 22nd. Of couse I want to try and beat my time (which is not one to brag about) so we willl see how that goes.....
For those interested - this is the elevation profile for the full and the half so...... good luck me!

But, I have to go to the store and get ready for the weekend..... for those who have Skype, look us up (Kristin G. Jonsdottir) - we're gonna try to be online tomorrow (Saturday) so look us up !!!!

Later............K

Country times......

Hello.... just a quick bog about life of the unemployed.
This weekend (which I am extending until further notice) was great. We went to Steini's parents summer house as soon as Steini got off work on Friday and met up with more members of his family. We drank, ate good (too good), played some games and did a lot of work on the house and the yard. Steini is going to build a gazeebo a few feet off the main house so we took it uppon us to clear the area where it is going to be. I think its going to be a little piece of heaven when its finally over cuz where we put it the wind cant get to and the evening sun shines there just perfect.
Chili loves being in the country.... she just runs around free and playes with the other dogs (even though Fífill is too old to play, she still tries). Steini left for work around 7am this morning and will return back in the afternoon so here I am with his parents relaxing. I wouldn't say relaxing RELAXING, since we have been doing a lot of work and as soon as Steini's dad comes back from the store I'm gonna help with with the brik laying for the day. I'll probably go back to the city with Steini tomorrow - but we'll see. Since I have internet here and food I am perfectly contempt right here!

Anyway....... just thought I check in for those who look. Please leave comments, concerns or whatever.... I love to see who actually looks at this site :-)

Still kicking....

Yes, despite what it looks like, we are still alive and kicking. I just posted the pictures I promised so please take a look at them.
Life here in Iceland is still pretty hectic despite of being unemployed. Steini of course goes to work every day and works from 8-4:30pm and I have been helping my brother packing and preparing for the move to Norway. I must say that it pretty much sucks that I have been away for 3 years and as soon as I return he leaves with his hole family for 3 years !!!!!! Oh well, I'll visit them - luckily Norway is not as far as the States and getting there is not as expensive either.
Steini and I are finally settling into our little room at his parents house. We got the bed up and the TV and our dresser so I guess we are good to go. Chili loves it here cuz there is another dog to play with (even though he doesn't really want to play with her) but at least its company while we are away over the day.
The weather here has been absolutely amazing since we got here and it looks  like its going to stay that way for a while. So far I have not yet worn my socks or closed shoes so my flippy floppies are stutting around the city with me every day - and I LOVE IT :-)
Steini and I also started running a little bit again, now that things have slowed down in the packing and unpacking department. We joined Steini's cousin yesterday for a 6 mile run, but he runs with a group every Monday and Wednesday and I think we are gonna try and stick with that. I feel that it helps running with a group, and especially people you don't know. That way you push harder cuz you don't want them to think you're a pussy ;-)

Anyway.... we are going to Steini's parents summer house again this weekend, but we are si high tech that there is internet connection there.... for those who have Skype - keep and eye out for us online :-)

Successfull first weekend

Well, I survived the first weekend in Iceland in over a year..... We had a wonderful time at the summer house with family and friends and celebrated my brothers wedding with a bang. Over 130 people showed up, and quite a few even camped over night. Dad cooked about 20 legs of lamb in a hole in the ground and mom made some salad that we ate with the wonderful mushroom sauce and baked potatoes. The bride made a french chocolate cake that was served with strawberries and coffee..... all and all DELICIOUS. The weather was beautiful and couldn't have been better. It was raining in the morning, but at 4pm the skies opened up and sun started to shine. I took plenty of pictures that I will post soon for you to take a look at. For now you can just enjoy this one of the groom in his wedding outfit :-)

In other news - Steini is starting his new job tomorrow and I am still unemployed. There are a
couple of positions available that I find interesting so perhaps something good will become of them.
Thursday is the big day though......Chili girl comes home to mama........ I talked to the woman in charge of the quarantine place and she says she is doing well (of course she will say that) so I will just have to see myself on Thursday!!

Anywho....... I better start working on my CV again - need to find a picture to put on it etc....
Later dudes - K
